Waves of Infinity (2025) for Flute Choir
Waves of Infinity is a large-scale work for flute orchestra inspired by the ocean's ever-changing nature. The music captures the fluid motion of waves—swirling, rising, and crashing—creating a dynamic and immersive soundscape.
Interwoven within the composition are melodic quotes from the African American spirituals We Shall Overcome and Wade in the Water, deepening the piece’s connection to the movement of water and its broader symbolism. Just as the tides continually reshape the shore, this work serves as a sociopolitical statement, reflecting our world's relentless forces of change, resilience, and transformation.
Scored for two piccolos, four C flutes, three alto flutes, two bass flutes, contra-alto flute, contrabass flute, harp, and percussion (wind chimes, triangle, and rain stick). ***UPDATE*** These newer parts include cues from the harp part added to various flute parts.
Waves of Infinity offers a rich and expansive sonic texture.
Completed on January 29, 2025. The work is dedicated to the National Flute Association LGBTQIA Flute Choir, Erin Spencer, and Vincenzo Volpe.

Reviews
I heard the premiere performance of Waves of Infinity in Atlanta at the 2025 National Flute Association Convention and it is a gorgeous piece. I greatly appreciate the creativity involved in composing this work inspired by the ocean and using quotes from African American spirituals to transform a beautiful piece into something deeper and more reflective. The composer was very helpful with excellent communication! DEFproject is looking forward to rehearsing and performing this in the near future.
