Notes by Michael-Thomas Foumai
Composed two years before her death, Price’s “Adoration” is originally for organ and is arranged for solo violin and strings by Jim Gray. As the title suggests, the brief 3-minute work channels a sacred devotion common with liturgical hymnody. The form is ternary, beginning with a long meditative melody accompanied by a bed of harmony. A responsorial section leads to a richer, slower section that rises and falls in melodic contour, reaching its expressive peak. The work ends by returning to the opening melody, cadencing the musical prayer in Amen.

I arranged this version for orchestra in the original key of D major (same as the organ version). I also arranged a version of this timeless work for flute orchestra which was premiered at the 2024 National Flute Association Convention in San Antonio. The reason behind the instrumentation was to not overbarren the texture. I want to keep it simple. The music speaks for itself and it would get lost in a large orchestral setting.
Instrumentation: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets in B-flat, 2 Bassoons, 2 French Horns, Timpani, Glockenspiel, Harp, and Strings. .
