A Wandering Journey is a duo composed for Alto and Bass Flute, commissioned by Rose Bishop as part of a project to record ten new works for this unique pairing. The piece explores motifs of increasing agitation and the dual sensation of journeying forward while feeling lost. The opening statement (measures 1–6) recurs throughout the composition, serving as a grounding anchor amid the tumult.
 
A key motif introduced at measure 8 resurfaces at measures 32, 44, and 119, embodying the agitated uncertainty of feeling lost—a reflection of the human condition. As different themes and emotions emerge and dissipate, chromaticism and complex rhythms convey a sense of angst and worry. I aimed to maintain a consistent tempo while increasing the rhythmic complexity to intensify the music's tension.
 
This tension continues until the final Adagio section at measure 133, where the motif from measure 8 returns. However, this time, the instruments diverge into separate time signatures (3 against 2), creating a layered effect that reinforces the theme of wandering.
 
The piece mirrors the unpredictability of life: a journey with a clear destination but a winding, meandering path. Each detour leads back to the original trajectory, suggesting that while the road may be uncertain, the journey itself is its destination.
